“Dramatize aims to break barriers within mainstream theatre, we strongly believe theatre should be accessible to all”
Dramatize was formed in 2011, where the directors Karen and Jo recognised the need for activities for adults with learning disabilities once they leave education. Since then Dramatize has held various fundraising events and worked with local schools and organisations to gain the support to run regular provisions within Spelthorne.
We provide a range of theatrical workshops to help further the personal development of each student that accesses our provisions. Dramatize aims for our workshops to provide the opportunity for theatre to be accessible to all!
Our provisions touch upon different aspects within the theatre industry to broaden the knowledge of how theatre can help progress personal development. Each scheme aims at all ages providing the care needed for those with disabilities, both physical and mental. Our vibrant and energetic workshops are offered within various boroughs of Surrey and the surrounding boroughs. At Dramatize we understand that individuals can communicate in a multitude of ways. This is why we support the work of The Makaton Charity, and use Makaton within our services. Makaton is a language programme using signs and symbols to help people to communicate. It is designed to support spoken language and the signs and symbols are used with speech, in spoken word order. We have Makaton Symbols used around the building, and our staff are taught signs relevant to our daily activities at Dramatize. We also have a weekly Signing and signing session with Chloe from ChloeSignZ which helps students and staff broaden their Makaton vocabulary. |
